The ppa is only relevant when a backport is needed (and generally
that's only important when there is a 3d-file change (e.g in 1.2.7).
Normally survex just migrates from Debian to Ubuntu like any other
package (because there is no important difference which might need
manual attention)
So, we currently have whatever was current at the time of release:
Debian:
Wheezy (7): 1.2.6-4 (1.2.11-1 in backports)
Jessie (8): 1.2.16-1
Ubuntu:
Utopic (14.10): 1.2.14-1
Vivid (15.04): 1.2.16-1
Wily : 1.2.16-1
Shortly after 1.2.18 or 19 or 20 is uploaded to debian, it will migrate to
Wily. To get it on utopic do:
apt-get install ubuntu-dev-tools
pull-debian-source unstable survex (to get latest package source)
build it, and hope you don't have issues with library versions. Utopic
has vtk6, so it should be OK.
Until a package is uploaded somewhere, you need to build from source
if you want terrain stuff, or use this package:
http://wookware.org/software/survex_1.2.17-1.dsc
I expect there will be a new upload to Debian any day now. Ol said he
prepared one but in the process found some things that should go
upstream, hence new versions.
