Thanks, I'll document that as a workaround in the release notes.

I've discovered that I can reproduce the crash using Wine under Linux
(which makes sense as Wine apparently currently advertises its version
as being XP).

Adding a print between each line of code, it's crashing trying to
create a "wxComboBox" for the scale entry (that's a text edit with a
drop-down list of predefined values). However, all of the samples
which come with wxWidgets that use wxComboBox work OK.

I don't have a debugger set up that I can point at it, so it's hard
to dig deeper.

We could have a separate XP build using older wx, but that is extra
work, and requires users to pick the right one to download so is best
avoided if we can.

After April, your choices seem to be paying MS for an "up"graded OS,
paying MS $200/year (and more for future years) for continued security
support for XP, or running XP without security support (which will cease
to be viable when the next big exploit appears), or as you suggest,
switching to Linux and using Wine to run anything you can't get a Linux
version of.
