Trouble generating terrain data with TerrainTool

Hi,

I am trying to produce Terrain data for Survex and Therion with TerrainTool but I'm having some issues.

I using TerrainTool 1.16

and java

$ java --version
openjdk 16.0.1 2021-04-20
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 16.0.1+9-Ubuntu-120.04)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.0.1+9-Ubuntu-120.04, mixed mode, sharing)

on Ubuntu 20.04.

If I try to use the NASA dataset I get the following error message:

> Unable to retrieve height data
> mccombe.terrain.MissingDataFileException
> Needs data file NASADEM_HGT_S16W048.zip - DEM not downloadable or auto-download is disabled

A couple of notes here:

1. I couldn't find in TerrainTool pages (http://www.ubss.org.uk/terraintool/terraintool.php) the path where TerrainTool will look for the manually downloaded data files. I'm betting it is the same path where it saves the data files it auto-downloads: "~/.local/share/terraintool/". Is that it?

2. In the error meesage it asks for a "NASADEM_HGT_S16W048.zip" file but the file available at "https://e4ftl01.cr.usgs.gov/MEASURES/NASADEM_HGT.001/2000.02.11/" is called "NASADEM_HGT_s16w048.zip". Please notice the different case of the South and West abbreviations. I even created a symlink inside "~/.local/share/terraintool/" from "NASADEM_HGT_S16W048.zip" to "NASADEM_HGT_s16w048.zip" but I'm still getting the same exact error.

Two questions:

1. Where should I put the manually downloaded data files?

2. How should they be named?

and one suggestion:

1. Include the full path of the needed data file with the exact filename expected in TerrainTool's error message.

Rodrigo Severo
