Figuring out GeoRefencing

I have put this off because I have been working on drawing the actual map but it is time to start figuring this out. I have tried various coordinate locations for my cave entrance and the results are, shall we say, not where they should be. (Had one in middle of South Africa and one in Hudson Bay (cave is in Eastern TN). How do I add a reference for this at the top of my file?
