It's not a duplicate leg as some of it - that needed to reach the lost station - would need to be included in the length. So just use it. Don't worry about what you perceive as an inaccurate total length. That is something that can never be exactly the same as the surveyed length, anyway, given that no cave surveyor sticks religiously to the exact centre of the passage.

This is probably just me but I was wondering how to handle the following situation.

- I am trying to close a loop;
- the nearest station is either really difficult to see (tucked under the passage) or lost (flagging removed or dot destroyed);
- another station can be located but the length really cannot be included in the survey since it is basically a duplicate shot.

If I use Duplicate, it is not added to the length but does not close the loop If I use Splay, it also is not added and does not close the loop.
