We definitely want to provide a newer version for cases like that, as
otherwise it creates a barrier to collaborating.

But I do also aim to provide a newer version in the PPA periodically
just so it's easily available to people and they don't have to put up
with old bugs and not have access to new features.  I've just not been
doing a very good job of that part lately.

Also, survex doesn't use vtk (you're thinking of therion).
