Yes, ssh from this platform does seem to need an explicit -X - it
is the default on most of the other machines

OK, that does indeed work. But presumably aven should really handle
the problem a bit more gracefully ?

The elevation/plan transition time is again about three seconds.
Interestingly, if you hit the "p" or "l" key twice, the transition
is much more rapid - I presume this is a design feature ?
