Would it not be possible for the program to enquire of lower-level
software what the current useable screen real estate is (ie. not
the actual resolution, but the size that would be used by a maximised
window) and set its default scale suitably ? This would seem a more
useful behaviour, and would not be such a pain for those with 1920x1440
displays who seem to spend most of their lives scaling things up for
analogous reasons :-)
