Try rpm -i <file-name> from a console window where <file-name> is the 
name of the Survex rpm package.

AFAIK the rpm's from the Survex home page are packaged for Redhat Linux 
so it probably would not work on Suse. In this case compile Survex from 
source. It is not that complicated and for you as Linux beginner it 
makes sense to learn how to build software from source. The sooner the 
better. :-)
