I am trying to get all my cave survey work on one machine. As outlined
below, currently I am using Compass and Carto to generate working maps.

I want to use (well try) survex and see if I hate it less the Compass :)

But I need to use Carto, so I either need Carto to read survex files, or
Survex to make .plt files. Or find a Linux based format convertor.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone on this list can help with my dilemma.

Carto info is at: http://www.psc-cavers.org/carto and the official bug
for this feature is:

Currently Carto can read the output from Compass and CMAP, both of which
are windows/dos programs. You should be able to run either one under
wine, but the setup effort if you don't use wine already may be
considerable.

I am interpreting this question as a request to make the answer "yes"
(it isn't now), and have entered it into my bug database as Bug 157.
