should I see something in the window? It's blank here. No obvious clue as to
why, but the tail of the java log is:

This JVM is v1.0.2 - I suspect you are assuming something more recent? There
probably isn't any actual need to require a newer JVM...

Also the page comes out with yellow-on-white text in the nav menus, which is
almost completely illegible - Not sure exactly where the yellow is coming
from, but if you remove the bgcolor="#FFFFFF" from each of the 3 nav tables
then it comes out fine on a black instead of white background. 

The whole page is also some 1500 pixels wide, putting the 'Imperial College
caving club' bit way of the right hand side of the screen - that probably
wasn't quite what you intended either :-)
