I've uploaded the sixth prerelease of Survex 0.97. Download links are on:

http://www.survex.com/

This prerelease is available for all platforms (including RISC OS and
pre-386 MSDOS machines!)

The major changes in this version are further work on aven, and improvements
to the flags mechanism.

We're close to 0.97 now - all that's left to do is:

* Try to further improve reports in .err file for closures involving
  stations fixed with error estimates.

* Add cadgen to documentation.

* Improve MS Windows file associations - e.g. don't close cavern window after
processing a .svx file; add association for cadgen.

* If Wookey is back before everything else is done, merge in his changes to
make xcaverot more usable on the ipaq (palmtop which can run Linux and has
a small screen compared to a typical X display).

I'm hoping to get these sorted early next week, and then have one last
prerelease which will hopefully become 0.97.

Full list of user-visible changes between 0.97-prerelease5 and prerelease6:

* (MS Windows version): aven: if there are problems opening the
message file, report them in a message box rather than printing text
which the user will never see.

* cavern: invalid data lines weren't being counted, so you'd get
incorrect line numbers reported for further errors and warnings.

* cavern: Added a SPLAY flag for indicating splay shots in chambers
  and large passages.

* extend: ignore surface legs and splay legs; preserve duplicate flag
  on extended legs.

* print*: if surface data isn't being plotted, ignore surface survey
stations too, and select page layout based on underground data only.

* (MS Windows version): get default language from Windows.

* cavern: added *entrance command for indicating cave entrances.

* Added "surface", "underground", "exported", "fixed", and "entrance"
  station flags to 3d format.

* (DOS version): caverot: fixed bug Brian Clipstone reported where
caverot would lock up when trying to plot a label off-screen.

* xcaverot/caverot: tweaked sense of a few controls to be consistent
with each other and with aven.

* Strip leading '\' from station names read from old .3d files.

* cavern: Better reporting of error stats involving a station fixed
  with errors.

* aven: allow highlighting of fixed, exported, and entrance stations.

Cheers,
Olly
