I've uploaded the fourth prerelease of Survex 0.96. Download links are on:

http://www.survex.com/

The major change in this version is that I've dropped the directx caverot
and replaced it with Mark Shinwell's MS Windows version of aven. Aven
offers nearly all of caverot's features (the missing ones are being worked
on) plus a few extra features (e.g. depth colouring). It's also a "real"
windows application, running in the desktop with menus, etc. Let us know
what you think of it.

This prerelease is available for all platforms apart from RISC OS and
pre-386 DOS machines (these will appear in 2-3 weeks time):

Changes in 0.96-prerelease4:

* cavern (RISC OS version): "is this a directory" test would never say
  "yes".

* caverot: (MSDOS version) cursor keys and delete had stopped working (due
to changes in allegro graphics library) - fixed.

* xcaverot: Zoom in and out with keyboard now behaves exactly like clicking
on buttons; Removed unused "select" button; Fixed significant memory leak.

* aven: (MS Windows version) Mark Shinwell has written a Microsoft Windows
version of aven, which is better in almost every way than the directx
version of caverot (and we're working to fix the few shortfalls), so we've
shelved directx caverot and are now including aven instead with the MS
  Windows version.

I'm off to Whistler (in Canada) tomorrow for 2 weeks of skiing, so get
hammering away on this and let me know any problems you find. Hopefully we
can get a real release out shortly after I get back.

We've slipped a little from the "1.0 at the end of 2000" target I was hoping
for, but there's not too much left to do now.

Cheers,
Olly
