I am a new to Survex, this Mailing List and cave surveying software
as a whole. My primary interest in using a software for cave
surveying lies in exploring, surveying and producing maps for
underwater caves and mines.
Right now we are diving a vast mine in the middle of Sweden that we
want to survey in order to produce maps that can be used for divers.
I have been recommended a cave surveying software called "On Station"
from some Americans that I am co-operating with, but I decided to
search for other alternatives as well.
If we decide on using Survex I would be delighted to help out in
creating a Swedish translation. As of now, Survex seems to be the
best choice for us, but I still want to be open for other
alternatives.
Is there anybody out there surveying underwater caves? What kind of
software are you using?
Do you use Survex only in order to create the stick map? The
Americans we have been talking to uses pen and paper cartography to
create the final map. We want to use digital methods all the way.
What tools do you use? What about vectorized programs such as xfig?
Do there exist libraries with items for cartography that can be used
for the cartography?
Sincerely,
