*REF

WRT to the *REF function.

A lot of the data that I am talking about is historic stuff on paper, which can consist of original muddy paper notes and the fair copy transcribed usually later the same day. The description in the comment is of the notebook that the fair copy is found in. In order to search for it you'd first need to have an idea of what sort of notebooks have been used. This is fairly esoteric unstructured knowledge, so I'm not sure that me taking Wookey's advice and ploughing back through it all adding *REF will add much to the usability of the data.

On the other hand, when I wrote

Gave Olly's response:
>Is that a date type that people would find useful as metadata more generally?
>E.g. would you ever want to colour by the date someone type the data in?

No, you probably wouldn't want to display such knowledge in Aven, but discovering who that was could give you a line on who to blame for any accidental changes or intentional interpretations in the data and to where the paper copies might have been deposited.

Cheers
