I don't know much about cave convertor so I'll leave that part to
Footleg, but summarising the current support for LRUD and splays in
Survex itself (you need Survex >= 1.4.6 for some of the Compass support
mentioned):
There's native support (i.e. in .svx) for LRUD in the form of `*data
passage` where you need to split your LRUD data into a series of
continuous tubes. This is then included in the .3d file and aven can
render "boxy" passages based on this.
Aven can also read Compass .PLT files and will render the same "boxy"
passages based on passage dimensions in them.
You can also process Compass .DAT files with Survex (using aven or
cavern) but currently any passage dimensions in .DAT files are ignored.
You can specify splays in .svx files (typically they're implicit splays
to an anonymous station in modern data, but you can also flag non-anon
legs with `*flags splay`).
Aven can display splays as lines, but does not currently support
rendering walls from splays.
Aven understands that shot flag "S" in Compass .DAT files means a splay
and handles them the same as splays in .3d files.
The plan is to support rendering walls from splays in aven and then
treat each LRUD cross section as 4 splays. Once this is implemented,
an LRUD-only survey will give simple passages, but if there's a mix of
LRUD and splays the rendered walls will take both into account.
Cheers,
Olly
