Survex 1.2.17 fails to compile on Fedora 21

Yes (in 5.3.16), but you will probably also need this patch:
http://sources.debian.net/src/therion/5.3.16-6/debian/patches/wx3.0-leftovers.patch/

And you may need a bit of makefile tweakage for fedora, although hopefully not.
