Survex already has some mime-support files:
/usr/share/mime-info/survex.mime
/usr/share/mime-info/survex.keys

and aven has desktop.org application support:
/usr/share/applications/survex-aven.desktop

However I've noticed that 'aven' is often set as the top accepter of
text files (which is annoying when you really wanted it to be an
editor), and in the past I've failed to get gnome/nautilus to 'know'
that it should 'run' .svx files with cavern and 'run' .3d files with
aven, so I think the mime support could use improving.

So we have had mime support for a decade or so, but I suspect it's
either just wrong, or in some ways suboptimal. I did the therion
packaging too, so if that works better I must have had more clue by
then :-)

If you can work out what should be changed then that would be great -
it's something I've been meaning to look at for a couple of years.
