It would be better if you put the message in the email :-) I wondered
'what message?' for a while.
You should also send bug reports either to the mailing list, or the
bug-repoorting system on Trac

Which survex version are you running? ( I suspect version 1.2.2
because line 1545 in version 1.20 is not an assert)
Does it happen with _any_ .3d file?
Can you send us the offending .3d file (or better file it with the bug
in trac)
I can extend a file and display it in Aven fine on survex 1.1.16 on
linux. And I can display that _extend.3d in aven 1.2.2, or reprocess a
new one and it still works fine. So I can't reproduce your problem on
1.1.16 or 1.2.2 on linux. Works fine with small, simple and long,
complex.
It seems to be blowing up because it's been given a tube with a size
less than 1(and that shouldn't happen) (but I don't actually understand
C++ so could well be confused there).
