OK, so the quick fix is to change the 3d file spec to make the dates be
signed offsets from the 1970 epoch (instead of unsigned).  Since it's
not 2038 yet this isn't going to change the meaning of any existing
3d files unless they already have bogus dates in (and cavern currently
rejects dates in 2038 or later anyway, though other programs may not
have this restriction).

There was a link from the front page of survex.com, but I see I managed
to remove it when adding the new item for 1.1.14 (it was an older "news
