Almost my first post on this forum, and am a bit reticent to question the
wisdom of the cave survey gods so early on...
However, am I missing something here?
Presumably the object is to produce an accurate cave map with the minimum of
effort, so we can focus on exploring the next cave?
If the finer detail of passage dimension is not reflected by the numerical
data it can be drawn quite easily and quite accurately (in horizontal plane
easily, in vertical plane less so but still pseudo graphically) using
Therion. This information is transferred to the 3d model.
Surely that is a better approach (and more refined) than tediously catering
for all sorts of numerical data entry. And then some poor sod has to
manipulate the field notes into the format required for that data entry.
Bound to be (user) error prone and hell to check.
I'm sure there is a good reason for the extra numbers approach that I
haven't thought of...
