Aven on Windows Vista 64 bit

Has anyone got Aven running on 64 bit Windows Vista? I just got a
query from a friend who is setting up a new computer, and they are
seeing some odd behaviour:

The mouse control seems to be disabled until one of the control
buttons is pressed then it will work for a bit stopping when another
set of data is requested. I've tried the compatibility mode & loading
to a the 32bit program file directory to no avail, any suggestions
welcome.
