This is still a work in progress, but seeing another question about
how to get original survey data out of .3d files on the list I thought
it worth mentioning so people are aware of it. I have been working on
a couple of data conversion problems which I am planning to merge into
a single tool to make available open source. The first problem was how
to regenerate a survex data file from an Autocad DXF file which
contained a survey a lines and polylines (the original data has been
lost). This may provide a route to regenerate original legs from .£D
files as these can be exported to DXF, but I have not tested this yet.

The second problem was how to get survex data into PocketTopo, the PDA
application for surveying with the DistoX device. For this I have been
writing a survex to toporobot format converter. The eventual combined
tool will contain a survex reader, survex writer, dxf reader,
toporobot writer. I could add further modules to support other
conversions as required. So this is just to raise awareness of the
project, so if you have a similar conversion problem post it here and
maybe I can add support to the tool. I'm writing it in Java so should
run on most platforms.
