[patch] cavern in feet

Sometime before sending, David A. Riggs typed (and on Tuesday 2007-10-23 21:36 sent):

I'm astounded ! All the Americans I caved with were using metres as a
matter of course when I was caving in Mexico in 1981. Mind you, back
then, the US had a tentative metrication programme. It was Reagan that
scuppered that wasn't it ? But why did cavers regress too ?
