Extraneous characters in filenames - Aven 1.1.6

I've just run Aven on a file called

5·5.3d where that middle character in the filename is a middot. Aven
shows this as having an extraneous Aring before it which looks very
odd. This is on Linux 2.4.27-sparc64, wxWindows 2.4.2 and nothing in the
Aven "About" window mentions what c lib versions etc.

I presume it's an interaction with filenames in Unicode ? Doesn't break
the functionality, but it looks very odd...
