bringing survex data into Gis environment (kind of OT)

first of of sorry if this post is off topic...my main goal is to integrate
some cave systems from Romania into a complex GIS (including maps, DEMs,
sat. images). so far i used the following algorithm:

-survex -> export .dxf -> arcview (as line theme without station names or
other annotations)
-survex -> rosetta (export as compass format) -> import into arcview (as
point theme with all the atributes i need)....

any of you tried other solutions? the ideea of bringing the contours into
survex or other cave program sound a little bit rough for me...
