If they are separate programs they will be easier to maintain, and less
likely to end up slow.  
If they can be command-line capable so able to be used in pipes that
would be great. Surely in GTK+ under Gnome all these separate programs
should be able to communicate with each other even as GUI's? This would
avoid the bloat that afflicts many Windows programs.
